3 Magh, Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress on Saturday launched protest rallies in all 753 local levels across the country against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR). In Kathmandu district, a protest rally that started from Shanti Batika went through various places of the city before converging into an assembly at Basantapur. On the occasion, NC leader Prakash Man Singh claimed that the dissolution of the lower house by the Prime Minister was against constitution and democracy. “PM’s step is against the stability of democracy and republic. It does not comply with the democratic values. So, there should be a balance of power between judiciary, executive and legislature.” He said, “There are various rumours. Legal practitioners will reach a decision in view of driving the country towards stability. Let’s hope judiciary will give right explanation.” Stating that stability and development may take place when politics go on the right path, he expressed his confidence that NC would continue to stabilise politics by bringing the constitution on right track. Similarly, other speakers, Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Hari Prabha Khadgi and Provincial Assembly member Narottam Baidya viewed that reinstating the parliament is only way to resolve disputes being raised from the HoR dissolution. Meanwhile, civil society leaders, senior doctor Dr Gobinda KC, journalist Narayan Wagle and advocate Om Aryal among others staged a demonstration at Maitighar Mandal in Kathmandu against the HoR dissolution. The protestors carried placards reading slogans, ‘maintain constitutional supremacy, and judicial good governance’.
