Kathmandu: Nepal Trade Union Congress has urged the government to rescue the migrant workers stranded at border. Issuing a press release today, the Trade Union Congress said although the lockdown was enforced to contain the possible outbreak of coronavirus in the country, it was imperative to rescue the Nepali workers who are stranded at Nepal-India border.
General Secretary of the Union, Yogendra Bahadur Kunwar, pointed out the need of immediate rescue of the Nepali workers and keeping them in quarantine. “It is government’s duty to resolve the problems facing citizens. So, those desperate at border must be rescued,” he underscored.
According to him, it was contradictory that government had urged everyone to implement the lockdown while allowing the production of essential goods and resumption of companies. As the resumption of industry could stoke the epidemic, it is not good option at all, he argued. Moreover, the government has been demanded to take every measure to ensure safety to workers in production of daily essentials and enforce lockdown effectively and conduct monitoring.
