Kathmandu: President Bidya Devi Bhandari visited the various goddess shrines and temples in Kathmandu Valley and paid homage to the goddess on the occasion of Mahaastami festival today.
Mahaastami is the eighth day of the 10-day long Bada Dashain festival, the biggest festival of Nepalis. The President offered prayers and paid homage to the goddess at Guheshwari, Maitidevi, Kalikasthan, Bhadrakali, Naxal Bhagawati, Shova Bhagawati, Bijeshwari, Naradevi, Sankata Bhagawati temples.
She received the tika and prasad from the priests of these temples. There is a belief that one is blessed with happiness, peace and good health by praying and paying homage to goddesses Mahakali, Mahalaxmi and Maha Saraswati and other goddess symbolizing power on Mahaastami.
