Galeshwor : People here are hit hard with the shortage of essential medicines in the health posts. Six health posts of Annapurna rural municipality, northern belt of Myagdi district, have witnessed the shortage of essential medicines for three months.
Acute shortage of basic medicines for three months
The medicines of 35 kinds which are provided free of cost are not available here. As a result, the people are bound to visit the district headquarters, Beni, even for minor health problem. The people visiting health posts at Ward No 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8 are returned empty handed. Even the Jeevan Jal, oral rehydration salt, is not available there.
In-charge of Shikha-based health post, Hem Pun, informed that he had had no option, but to suggest the people visiting the health post to drink boiled water as there was no Jeevan Jal. Similarly, Tek Bahadur Purja, was told to visit next ward when he was rushing for medicine to treat his son suffering from diarrhea. For not having well managed health facilities in the villages, the people here are forced to reach the district headquarters to buy the medicine which actually are provided free of cost.
The health workers admitted that the people were angry to know the acute shortage of basic medicines for long. It is said sheer negligence of the concerned rural municipality has resulted in such paucity. Chairperson of ward no 1, Dinesh Kumar Pun, admitted that the medicine supply was not ensured on time because of transportation problems.
