92-year old in Dang gets citizenship card

Lamahi : An elderly woman with low vision was euphoric beyond words as the State has officially recognised her as a citizen of this country albeit on the ebb of her life.
92-year-old Challi Chaudhary of Ratanpur in Gadawa Municipality-3 in Dang district recently obtained a Nepali citizenship card, thanks to the mobile camp organised by the District Administration Office (DAO), Pachaha in the district.
Chief District Officer (CDO) Govinda Rijal handed over the citizenship to Chaudhary at an event to which the elderly woman expressed her happiness for the official recognition of her as a citizen of this country.
On top of that, she was elated that she would be able to receive the old age benefits including Rs 2,000 in monthly social security allowance.
Chaudhary is one among the 2.1 million people aged 60 or above as recorded in the census 2011, who availed of the service.
CDO Rijal said that none had earlier suggested Chaudhary to apply for the citizenship card nor had there been such a mobile camp organised.
The local administration organised the mobile camp to facilitate the distribution of citizenship cards to those with physically, mentally and visually disabilities as well as the elderly ones as well living in remote settlements, shared CDO Rijal.
