NC forms Election Committee

Kathmandu: The main opposition, Nepali Congress (NC) party has formed a five-member Central Election Committee in view of holding the 14th national convention of the party.

The meeting of the NC’s central committee held in Sanepa today formed the Committee comprising Gopal Krishna Ghimire, Khamba Bahadur Khati, Sitaram KC and Ekraj Pokharel.

The meeting also formed a Regulations Drafting Committee coordinated by central committee member Ramesh Lekhak. The committee has Min Bishwakarma, Jivan Pariyar, Ishwori Neupane and Pradeep Poudel as its member.

Also, the Discipline Committee formed yesterday has been given completion. The committee was set up in accordance with the NC’s Statute. The Committee coordinated by Bhismaraj Angdambe has Umakanta Chaudhary, Dhanaraj Gurung, Kishore Singh Rathor and Devendra Rak Kandel as members.

According to NC Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma, the party also decided to demand with the government to describe what was the ‘democratic practice based on the people’s mandate’ mentioned in the agreement with the CK Raut some two weeks ago. Government had inked an 11-point agreement with Raut’s Alliance for Independent Madhes (now renamed Janamat Party) to bring Raut to mainstream politics.

NC has also appealed to the Netra Bikram Chand-led Nepal Communist Party to leave behind violence, murder and terror and join peaceful politics. “The Nepali Congress party urges the government to demonstrate its governing prowess by taking Netra Bikram Chand-led Nepal Communist Party into confidence through dialogue rather than through the politics of negation,” reads a statement released by the party.
