Kathmandu: The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu organized a reception as well as cultural programme to celebrate the 109th International Women’s Day on Friday in the capital.
Inaugurating the event, Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Thammaya Thapa said that the constitution of Nepal had guaranteed at least 33 per cent seat for women representation in its all State organs.
Stating that the new constitution of Nepal had secured the welfare of women legally, Minister Thapa asserted that government was effortful towards its effortful implementation as well.
Similarly, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi said that collaboration between China and Nepal dates back to long and pledged to work to continue with the cordial ties between the two countries.
Acknowledging the fact that women have been making significant contributions for economic development, equality and political changes, Ambassador Hou shared that the Chinese government had provided training to a total of 260 Nepali women in 2018.
Stating that both Nepal and China had been working in tandem for the women’s upliftment, the newly appointed Chinese envoy commended the role of President Bidya Devi Bhandari in securing the welfare of women.
She also lauded the determination of Nepali women in their works.
In a surprising twist to the event, Hou joined the troupe of Chinese artists performing both Chinese and Nepali cultural dances, to dance to the tune of Nepali music.
Various other Chinese cultural performances such as calligraphy, knot making and Chinese tea-tasting among others were also performed on the occasion.
Present on the occasion were the high-ranking officials of the Chinese embassy in Kathmandu as well as Nepali women lawmakers, women from different walks of life including media.
