Kathmandu, Nov. 27 : The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has decided to pile pressure on the media houses that fail to implement the Working Journalist Act.
A meeting of the FNJ Central Committee held in Kathmandu Tuesday decided to exert pressure on the media houses for the implementation of minimum wage determined by the government after increasing media persons’ salary by 25 per cent, general secretary of FNJ Ramesh Bista said.
Likewise, the FNJ has urged the government to implement and facilitate enforcement of the Working Journalist Act in all the media houses. It has also asked the government to increase and implement the proportional advertisement policy to ensure sustainability of the local and media houses with small investment.
Similarly, the FNJ has asked the local government not to formulate the laws that limit the free press and freedom of expression. The FNJ meeting has also taken exception to the local level and province governments’ move to run their own media houses.
General Secretary Bista shared that the national conference of the FNJ’s province committee chairpersons, general secretaries, district chapters’ chairs is scheduled to be held on 19-20 December in Biratnagar.
