President to give tika on Bijaya Dashami

Kathmandu, Oct 16 : President Bidya Devi Bhandari is to give the 'tika' to the members of the general public and distinguished persons on the occasion of the Bijaya Dashami on October 19.

Assistant spokesman at the Office of the President, Keshav Prasad Ghimire, said the President will offer the Dashain tika to the distinguished persons from 1 pm to 2 pm and to the members of the general public from 2 pm to 4 pm on October 19, the Bijaya Dashami day.
Ghimire said the Gate No. 1 to the President House would remain open for the people wanting to receive tika from the Head-of-the-State on Bijaya Dashami.
The time for receiving tika from the President on Bijaya Dashami day has been fixed for the distinguished persons including the government ministers, the province chiefs, judges, members of the federal parliament, office-berarers of the constitutional bodies and the members of the general public.
The Preisdent will also give tika to the civil servants and police and army personnel on the occasion, the Office of the President stated.
The ‘tika’ is a mixture of red vermillion powder, curd and rice grains which is put on the forehead of the junior members of the family by the senior members on the last day of the 10-day long Dashain festival, the biggest festival of the Nepalis. Tika symbolises victory and success. Together with jamara it is taken as the auspicious item of the Dashain festival and given as blessings.There is a tradition of the Head of the State giving tika to the distinguished persons, civil servants and the memebrs of the general public on Bijaya Dashami.
