Kathmandu, Oct 14 : Nepali Congress (NC) central working committee on Sunday has passed a condolence proposal on the passing away of party’s former central member and ex-minister Chakra Prasad Bastola.
The meeting held at party central office at Sanepa stated that the passing away of Bastola caused the loss of an intellectual, fair, outspoken and revolutionary leader, reads a press release issued by NC.
Showing deep respect to the late leader Bastola, the NC has decided to down the party’s flag at half mast at the central office and its all subordinating offices.
The party has also decided to close down the party’s central office and its all subordinating offices on October 15.
Likewise, the party has decided to keep the condolence logbook at central office and all district offices until 13th days of the demise and organize a condolence meet on the 13th day.
Leader Bastola breathed his last at own residence at Khumaltar in Lalitpur on Sunday night. Leader Bastola remained unconscious after he underwent brain hemorrhage amidst a public programme in Morang around six years ago.
Bastola, who had started his political career while pursuing university education at Banaras Hindu University, was active since the establishment of Democratic Socialist Youth League.
He had demonstrated the frontline leadership in every movements waged by the Nepali Congress except that of 2007 BS.
Bastola had made preparation of armed struggle when BP Koirala went exile in India in 2025 BS.
He had played significant role in preparing the background for the signing of 12-point understanding between the seven political parties alliance and the then rebel, CPN-Maoist.
Bastola had discharged the responsibilities of Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Foreign Affairs and Agriculture during his political career. He had also served as an ambassador to India.
His mortal body has been kept at party central office, Sanepa, for final. His last final rights would be performed at the Pashupati Aryaghat today.
