Non violent movement durable: NC President Deuba

Kathmandu, Oct 2 : Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the achievement 
gained with non violent movement is durable and reliable.

During a programme on ‘Democracy and Gandhian thoughts in 21st century” organized by the Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Memorial Foundation on the 150th Gandhi Jayanti here Tuesday, President Deuba reminded that Gandhi was the towering figure of the Indian independence movement.
“Gandhi played a significant role to remove the imperialist force of the British with the peaceful movement,” he underscored, adding that the Nepal’s change has reflected Gandhi’s way of the movement for peace.
Moreover, he termed the late Mahendra Narayan Nidhi as the Gandhian leader and his thoughts and way of life are still relevant.
Vice-President Bimalendra Nidhi said even the Nepalis had equal support to the non violence movement launched by Gandhi in India. “Indian people have moved ahead as per the non violence and peace as propounded by Gandhi,” he added.
The regime brought by the war and weapons can’t sustain long, he argued.
NC central member Pradip Giri observed, “Gandhi had unparalleled stand for truth.”
Nepal Communist Party leader Ghanashyam Bhushal said, “Gandhi can be viewed even from Marxist view point.” Gandhi’s movement against violence is unforgettable, he added.
Spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party and lawmaker Tarun Bijay said anyone devoted to poor and oppressed are Gandhian. “BP Koirala is a Gandhian leader of Nepal,” he viewed.
Congress (I) Secretary Chandra Kumar said the present day youths need to be informed about the ideals and principles of the Gandhi.
Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Memorial Foundation Chairman Purushottam Dahal, Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Manjeev Singh Puri and others said Gandhi is the leader not only of India but of the world.
