Stress on evidence-based police investigations

Kathmandu, July 6 : Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ has said the control of crime was the pre-condition for achieving good governance and prosperity in the nation.
Inaugurating the first province-level conference of police of investigation department and government attorney here today, the Home Minister highlighted the need of evidence-based investigation to make justice administration reliable.
“Security affairs and polices are directly linked with the judiciary, “he said, adding that the government wanted to move ahead if there remained any weaknesses regarding its security policy.
Former Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha was of the view of strengthening the rule of law to protect political achievements of so far.
Similarly, Inspector General of Nepal Police, Sarbendra Khanal, said they were trying to take the development and security issues ahead together, seeking government’s seriousness towards the management of resources required for security purposes. “Evidence-based not the statement -based investigation is the need of the hour in the police administration”. He pledged to keep the police administration free from unethical and unprofessional practices.
The event organised by the Crime Investigation Department of Nepal Police will run for tomorrow.
