NGO playing pivotal role in settling conflicts over natural resources

Bhadrapur : An organisation has started positive intervention in resolving local problem at Jhapa rural municipality.
The Natural Resources Conflict Transformation Centre Nepal, Jhapa, has started initiatives to address the problem of increasing encroachment on the forest area at local Raniban community forest. There was growing tendency of encroaching upon the community forest in recent months.
The organisation basically works to resolve any dispute related to the use of water, land and forest resources. It is also affiliated to the mediation council and has stepped up its efforts for resolving local level disputes over the use of natural resources.
In this connection, the organisation formed a group called Makura comprising nearly 25 households that had encroached on the community forest, the organisation’s secretary Sangita Thapa said.
She said the organisation has so far resolved 14 disputes in Jhapa district. The organisation is working in 17 districts across the country.
