Still 10 % daughters’ marriage before 15

Nepalgunj : The ‘Golden Nepal Mega Campaign for Daughters’ kicked off in Banke district since Friday so as to contribute to end child marriage.
The campaign spearheaded by actress Rekha Thapa and Nar Bahadur Karki is gradually gaining cooperation from civil society at local level.
Various personalities including Lions Club of Nepal District 325 B Governor Madhu Sudan Sharma, former governor Sem Shakya, Gopal Nath Yogi of B Group and woman activist Richa Luitel have also extended their personal supports to the campaign.
At an open public programme organized here on Friday as part of the campaign, the school and college students of the district were sensitized on the problems arising from child marriage and its negative effects on individual, family and society.
At a press conference organized following the event, campaigner duo, Thapa and Karki, said they would run this campaign as collective efforts of all like-minded people by not taking support from any partner organizations.
They shared that roughly 17 percent daughters’ in Nepal got married before reaching 17 while 10 percent under 15.
