Morang agro sector suffers loss worth Rs 560 million

Biratnagar : The agriculture sector in Morang district has incurred a loss worth over Rs 560 million in the recent flooding. Paddy plantation in around 2,520 hectares of farmland in the district has been destroyed in the disaster on August 11 and 12, incurring a loss amounting to around Rs 243 million, the District Agricultural Office estimated. Likewise, at least 7,950 families were affected.
Similarly, vegetable farming in 317 hectares of farmland, and fish farming in 313 hectares were damaged, incurring a loss of over Rs 272 million-Rs 100.6 million losses in vegetable farming, and the remaining 162.6 million in fish farming.
Flood caused damages to jute farming across 110 hectare of land, amounting to more than Rs 10 million.
The flood entering the houses of as many as 2,000 farmers in the district also damaged 490 metric tonnes of rice and wheat grains, inflicting financial loss worth more Rs 10 million.
The flood also caused damages to fishery, according to the District Agriculture Development Office Chief Manoj Yadav.
Similarly, disruption in electricity in Biratnagar damage potatoes stored in cold store causing the loss of Rs 5 million.
