Senior citizens voice concern for no facilities

Dhading : A section of senior citizens have voiced their concern for being deprived of receiving state-sponsored facilities.

They came up with the concern at an interaction programe ‘Status of Human Rights of Senior Citizens’ organized here on Wednesday by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in coordination with Senior Citizen District Association.
At the programme presided over by Association Chairperson Basudev Lamsal, the senior citizens complained that the provision of granting 50 % concession on public transportation and health treatment which is also clearly stated in the senior citizen ID card has been confined to papers.
They also accused that the seats allotted in the public vehicles for women, disabled and senior citizen are just for showcasing.
The elderly people are facing tough time as there are no people at home and locality to provide them with care on difficult condition. With sons and grand-sons going abroad for employment and daughter-in-laws moving to city for child education, the senior citizens are compelled to live a wretched life in society in absence of helping hands, they complained.
