Security preparation for second phase polls

Kathmandu : The government has begun preparing for the security arrangement to be made for the second phase of local level elections.

The second phase of local elections is scheduled for June 14 in province no. 1, 2, 5 and 7. The Home Ministry is working to build on the success of the first phase and rectify the shortcomings, said Ministry spokesperson Bal Krishna Panthi.
Five people were killed in the violent activities that took place in Kalikot, Dolakha, Dhading and Tanahu districts in the first phase of elections. Challenge to the security management was posed not due to weakness of the security bodies but as a result of the party cadres, Panthi said.
As in the first phase, a security plan has been developed to be implemented at the village, region and central level. Furthermore, mobile security units would be put on stand-by to immediately respond in case of any anti-election activities, Nepal Police spokesperson SSP Sarbendra Khanal said.
