NC’s Political Manifest: Socialist economy through democratic system

Bhishmaraj Ojha/ Kathmandu, Dec 11 (RSS): The major opposition Nepali Congress has set the political perspective that strengthens the blend of socialism and democracy to create a true socialist society.

The political proposal finalized for presenting before the mahasamiti meeting has mentioned that the party wants to set up socialism through democracy.
Coordinator of the political proposal draft committee and Vice President Bhimalendra Nidhi presented the proposal at the ongoing meeting of the central committee on Tuesday. The mahasamiti meeting is due in Kathmandu from December 14 to 18.
NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma shared the information at a press meet that the NC has reiterated its stand that the constitution promulgated by the Constituent Assembly of the people’s representatives is a glorious achievement. And it was NC that brought the then rebellion force into the peaceful politics and to the democratic values and ideals.
About the nationality, the NC has said it is the nativity and the foundation of collective identity and culture, which created the sense of patriotism.
As the fundamental principles of the democracy, the NC has put people’s sovereign supremacy, protection of nationality, global values of human rights, periodic elections, independent judiciary, free press, freedom of expression, religious freedom.
The socialism as mentioned in the constitution should bolster democratic values, bring economic transformation and ensure equitable society.
Republic was declared after the conclusion based on experience that if the king does not need citizens, citizens too do not need him.
Federalism has become equally important to NC’s major values of nationality, democracy and socialism, the proposal mentioned, adding that NC has brought into State mechanism and the party organization the Karnali, Dalit, women, indigenous and Madhes.
The political documents has however expressed worry over some tasks of the peace process remained to be settled. It has expressed commitment to ensure at least 33 per cent representation of women in the party.
The document has vividly mentioned that anyone practicing untouchability would not be the party member. The foreign policy needs to be maintained by rising above party interest, it said.
It has accused the ruling party of misusing power and doubted of democratic values on it. The ruling party has blatantly attacked the spirit and aspiration of the constitution one after another. “In whatever number the communist parties are in Nepal, they are uniting against democratic powers and democratic culture,” the NC has concluded.
Moreover, the NC has said some activities of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party were intended to restore the monarchy which does not fit the democratic system, while the new born Nayashakti and Bibeksheel Sajha are yet to establish principles and values.
The NC commented that the Madhes-centric political parties were still out of the way that bolsters democracy.
Four political streams in Nepal
There are four political streams in Nepal- first, the principle of freedom, sovereignty, democracy, socialism, federalism and republic incorporating nationality which the NC follows; second, the communist force which believes in one-party autocracy and centralism of people’s democracy with the control of people’s freedom; third, monarchist rightists, and fourth the ethnic extremism and regional extremism.
The central working committee meeting has begun discussion on this political document.
