Municipality to bear ambulance fare for pregnant women

Tehrathum, Sept. 14 : The Myanglung Municipality in Tehrathum has announced to provide cost of transportation in ambulance to the pregnant women visiting the District Hospital for giving birth to the babies.

Deputy Mayor Parbati Sanu Dangi said that the municipality has already decided to bear the travel cost as per the bill incurred while visiting the District Hospital in the ambulance by the pregnant women. Deputy Mayor Dangi said that the programme was unveiled to make the safe maternity service further effective in the municipality.
The government has been providing Rs 2,000 to each woman as the travel cost after taking safe maternity service from the health care organizations.
Meanwhile, the municipality has also decided to halt the tax imposed on stones, pebbles and sand collected from the local market (hatiya). For now, the municipality decided not to implement its decision to collect the tax following the protests from the municipality dwellers terming it impractical, Mayor Sanjaya Kumar Tumbahamphe said.
Earlier, the municipality was also criticized for collecting tax even from the small vendors selling vegetables in the hatiya observed on every Friday.
