Kathmandu, June 12 : Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has termed the government’s slogan of prosperity as merely a hollow talk.
Inaugurating the opening session of sixth national general convention of the Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) in the capital on Tuesday, President Deuba lambasted the government that hiking price on daily consumable goods would not bring prosperity.
The government’s gesture during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Nepal visit has exposed its hollow nationalistic stance, Deuba accused, adding, “What type of nationalism is being nurtured? The party which constrained the advancement of the Arun 3rd Hydropower Project invited India to inaugurate the same initiative”.
To internal feud in the party, he said the NC would not go strong by merely criticizing him while stressing the need to unite the party forces and make its organizational robust to overcome the problems
Likewise, NC senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel said that NTUC’s several demands were enshrined in the Constitution at the initiative of Nepali Congress and called for the establishment of all-inclusive National Labour Commission.
He noted that NC would come up with strong protests against the violation of constitutional provision that the Speaker and Deputy Speaker should not be from the same party.
General Secretary Dr Shashank Koirala suggested the party leadership to move together by removing internal disputes and pledged to take the necessary role to that end.
Also speaking on the occasion were NC Vice-Chairperson Bimlaendra Nidhi, former general secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Spokesperson Biswo Prakash Sharma, youth leader Gagan Thapa and NTUC President Khilanath Dahal, among others.
Over 1,400 delegates from across the country are taking part in the conclave of NTUC. The NTUC was first established by Nepali Congress leader Girija Prasad Koirala in 2003 BS in the name of Nepal Majdoor Sangh.
