Butwal : A youth was shot dead by an unidentified group at Devdaha municipality-5 in Rupandehi today. The deceased has been identified as a local Basanta Poudel, 42. The unidentified assailants who were riding black Pulsar bike opened fire at Poudel when he was sitting at his own sawmill at Devdaha municipality-2. He had received bullet on his head.
Poudel died while undergoing treatment at Lumbini Zonal Hospital.
Meanwhile, agitating youths and students have closed Butwal protesting the killing of Poudel demanding to book the guilty. Poudel is the son of former VDC Chairperson and a local leader of CPN (UML), Nilkantha Poudel.
A year back, Durga Tiwari, a leader of the Youth Association Nepal, was shot dead at the same place. Basanta was a close friend of Durga.
Immediately after the incident, a person who identified himself as Manoj Pun and speaking from Malaysia phoned the local journalists and various persons that the murder was his plan. That person stated that he was in Malaysia and Basanta was killed as per his plan.
A year ago, Manoj had phoned like this and said that he had Durga killed and threatened that now was Durga’s turn.
The District Police Office, Rupandehi said that investigation is on as to who fired the gunshot. Locals said that the shooter escaped towards the Rohini rivulet on a Discover motorcycle after the shooting.
