Home Ministry releases Rs 19.7 million for disaster victims

Kathmandu, Aug 13: The Home Ministry has released Rs 19.7 million to provide financial assistance to the disaster victims in various districts of the country. The districts, especially in the southern plains have been badly affected with the floods and inundations, while landslides occurred in many hilly districts after the heavy rainfall for some days.
The Ministry informed that the amount would be provided to the disaster survivors through the concerned district natural disaster and rescue committees. The committees under the district administration offices would collect detailed information on the loss of lives and damages of properties and provide the assistance accordingly.
Financial Administration Chief at the Home Ministry, Shivanath Poudel, informed that the amount was sent to the affected districts for the first round and it could be augmented after studying the status of the affected ones.
So far, more than 40 people have lost their lives in the landslides, floods and inundation occurred in some 20 districts from the hilly and southern plains.
