BP INS urges NC party leadership select ‘right’ candidates in election

Kathmandu : The BP Ideology National Society has called on the party leadership of Nepali Congress not to repeat ‘weaknesses’ seen in the first-round of the local-level election in the second-phase.
A delegation led by Society President and lawmaker Kul Bahadur Gurung called on party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, with this demand.
On the occasion, the Society discussed with the party leadership about various issues relating the party organisation and national politics and gave this suggestion.

The society drew the attention of party President Deuba towards ‘negative impact’ of some decisions made by the CPN(Maoist Centre)-NC coalition government on the party’s popularity and ‘unsuccessfulness’ to achieve the expected results in the first-round of election due to ‘failure’ to choose right candidates (though not in all), Society General Secretary Binay Dhwaj Chand said.

The party leadership was urged to pick up ‘popular face’ in the second-round of election and not to repeat the past mistakes, he added.

The Society demanded that the party should present itself with a clear and appropriate political stance while heading a new government and clear off frustration seen among the people of late due to party’s role in the national politics.
The Society has suggested the party leadership that the party should be made clearer regarding its ideology and be mobilised with new programmes.

In response, the party President, welcoming the Society suggestion, pledged to do his best to make the party more dynamic by correcting weaknesses seen in the May 14 elections and to efficiently run a new government to be formed under the party leadership.

Society co-chair Govinda Raj Joshi, Joint Secretary Ram Bahadur Gurung and founding members Laxman Prasad Ghimire and Lokesh Dhakal were also in the delegation.
